Surface Preparation

Before starting the application, assess the strength and moisture level of the substrate. The surface must be strong, dry, clean, and stable. Before applying the system, remove all dust, dirt, grease, and other contaminants. Cracks, chips, holes, and other substrate defects must be repaired beforehand. When applying microcement over ceramic tiles or uneven substrates, the surface must be mechanically abraded to ensure proper adhesion of the subsequent layers.

Priming

The type of primer must be selected according to the type and condition of the substrate. Apply the primer evenly with a roller in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Cement-Based Waterproofing

In areas where additional protection of the substrate and structural elements from moisture, condensation, and water leakage is required, it is recommended to use the cement-based waterproofing FLOORING MEMBRANE. The material is applied with a roller or trowel in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. In corners, joints, and other potentially moving areas, SEALING TAPE must be used. This helps reduce the risk of cracking and provides additional watertightness to the system.

Base Coat

The Continuo Base base coat is used under microcement when applying the system to floors and ceramic tiles. The material is applied in two coats using a stainless-steel trowel. Reinforcing mesh with a 3.5 × 4.2 mm mesh size and a density of 70 g/m² must be embedded between the coats. The mesh is installed edge-to-edge, without overlapping. Each subsequent stage of the application must be carried out only after the previous coat has dried, in accordance with the manufacturer’s technical requirements.

Decorative Finish

To achieve the desired decorative effect, use the two-component organo-mineral decorative coating Continuo DECO. The material is applied in two coats using a stainless-steel trowel. Allow at least 4 hours between coats. Before application, thoroughly mix components A and B. Prepare only the amount of material that can be fully used within 60 minutes after mixing the components.

Sanding

After the second coat of Continuo DECO has fully dried, but not earlier than 12 hours after application, the surface must be sanded using an orbital sander. The recommended abrasive grit is P100–P150. After sanding, thoroughly remove all dust from the surface. The substrate must be clean and completely dust-free before proceeding with the subsequent application steps.

Priming Before Varnishing

Before applying the protective topcoat, the surface must be primed with the two-component Continuo LINK primer. Thoroughly mix components A and B, then add 3 litres of water and mix thoroughly again. Apply the primer using a roller or brush, distributing the material evenly over the surface with random, multidirectional strokes. Once the components have been mixed, the prepared mixture must be used within 60 minutes.

Topcoat Application

The Continuo TOP protective topcoat is the final protective layer of the CONTINUO system. Application of the topcoat must be carried out no earlier than 4 hours after applying the Continuo LINK primer. Before preparing the mixture, thoroughly stir component A, then add component B and 10% water based on the total amount of topcoat. Mix thoroughly until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. Apply the topcoat with a roller using random, multidirectional strokes in two coats. Allow at least 4 hours between coats.

Putting the Surface into Service

Light foot traffic is permitted 24 hours after application of the final topcoat. In areas with high humidity, such as showers, bathrooms, and similar spaces, full service load is permitted 7 days after application of the topcoat.

Cleaning and Maintenance

For regular cleaning of surfaces finished with the CONTINUO system, use standard neutral cleaning products suitable for floor maintenance. Do not use highly alkaline or acidic cleaning products, as they may adversely affect the protective properties and appearance of the coating. The surface is resistant to a wide range of household cleaning products suitable for use in residential and office environments. However, prolonged contact with dirt or aggressive substances should be avoided. If potentially aggressive substances come into contact with the surface, remove them as soon as possible with water. Avoid prolonged contact with: lemon juice; vinegar; tomato juice; limescale removers; acidic and other aggressive cleaning products. Do not use sanding machines or industrial cleaning products intended for ceramic or stone floors. Their use may damage the protective layer, alter the appearance, and impair the performance of the CONTINUO system. For routine maintenance, use neutral, non-abrasive cleaning products and cold or moderately warm water. The water temperature must not exceed 40 °C. Avoid sudden temperature changes, as well as the use of steam cleaners or other cleaning methods involving hot steam. When these maintenance recommendations are followed, surfaces finished with the CONTINUO system will retain their protective and decorative properties for an extended period.
