The product can be applied to:

New and old water-based plasters. Surfaces with old mineral- or synthetic-based paint, provided they are dry, sound, absorbent and properly prepared. Various mineral building compounds, provided they are absorbent. The surface must be properly prepared in accordance with the instructions in the “Surface Preparation” section.

Do not apply to damp or insufficiently dry surfaces.

MARMO ANTICO, being a mineral-based product, is not recommended for application over old synthetic paints (washable water-based paints with quartz and textured coatings). Application on exterior concrete surfaces is not recommended because, despite its high vapour permeability, the product does not provide protection against the aggressive effects of carbon dioxide, which is the main cause of deterioration of concrete surfaces.

Apply the first coat of the product to the surface as evenly as possible.

After 12 hours, apply the second coat to achieve a uniform thickness.

The applied product begins to dry quickly on the surface. Apply it in small amounts, wet-on-wet, covering the surface and firmly pressing the material into the pores.

To avoid visible joints on the surface, always apply the product onto the wet edge, working continuously from corner to corner.

Without allowing the product to dry, roughen selected areas of the surface with the edge of the trowel, keeping the tool perpendicular to the surface in order to create the characteristic MARMO ANTICO veining.

Firmly smooth the still-wet material to obtain a compact, dense surface.

Since the drying and carbonation of MARMO ANTICO, like all lime-based products, are strongly affected by temperature and humidity, we recommend applying the product at temperatures between +10 °C and +35 °C, with relative humidity below 75%. Avoid application in direct sunlight. Exposure of an undried surface coated with a lime-based product to adverse atmospheric conditions during carbonation, such as rain, high humidity or low temperatures, may result in the formation of white spots or streaks. These defects may be impossible to remove, especially under extreme conditions. After application, surfaces intended for exterior use must be protected from rain and moisture until completely dry (at +20 °C), which takes approximately 72 hours. If there is no need to strengthen the substrate with a primer, we recommend dampening the surface before application to prevent excessive absorption of the water contained in the product's binders and subsequent detachment of the coating from the substrate.

Drying time (at +25 °C and 65% relative humidity): touch dry after 2–3 hours; subsequent coats can be applied after 12 hours (depending on the thickness of the applied coat).
